“The enemy is fear. We think it is hate; but it is fear.”

Gandhi

Sometimes, fear is something as simple as the decision to look at something and pull a 180 degree turn towards the opposite direction. But, sometimes fear can be so debilitating that we literally scream and shake because we have no control over a situation or occurrence in our everyday life. However fear is dealt with, it exists nonetheless; always watching and waiting to pounce on us like a fully coiled snake.

I see fear every single day in the eyes of my colleagues and classmates who are just trying to survive in this crazy world we live in. I’ve seen fear in the eyes of children who didn’t know where their next meal was coming from. I’ve seen fear in the eyes of parents who didn’t know if they were even going to be parents in the end. What’s not to fear about that right?

“But I thought that we were made with a spirit that can’t be broken by the One who created the universe! Why do I still fear the small things if He did such a big thing for me?” You’re right! You were made by the same God that lead the Israelites from the grips of the Egyptians and the same God who came down to Earth in the form of a man to die for each and every one of our sins. That alone should be comfort enough to the average, everyday Christian that He will never leave us and never, ever forsake us.

But if it’s not…

Deut 31:6 - “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you or forsake you.”

Isaiah 41:13 - “For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”

Isn’t that crazy!?! How can we even fathom someone, let alone the Creator of the very universe we live and breath in, constantly being at our side and having our backs through everything. That is definitely something we are not used to; but God and His eternal love for us are not of this world.

But ‘why me?’ you might be asking, and that is a perfectly legitimate question. ‘Why as a member of this fallen world would HE have MY back?” As a Christian, it is easy to get so wrapped up in the ‘why me’ that we completely forget that He already answered that question before time even began with a huge ‘WHY NOT YOU!? I LOVE YOU, THAT’S WHY’ Plain and simple, God loves us so much that, even though we have every reason in the world to fear, He comes to us with a spirit of peace and love and all we have to do is accept it.

While it might seem too good to be true, being that every shiny thing on this earth most of the time always turns to rust; rest assure that the same lion that is roaring up in heaven is the same lion that is inside your heart when you lean on His great love.

So to answer the question of ‘why should I fear’… you shouldn’t. Even if the world comes falling in or the sky comes falling down, the same God who did all these miraculous things in our past is the same God who will hold you up and keep you safe. You will never be like Chicken Little, 100% guaranteed.
